Hello, I am Rebecca Cummings

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Diego, California. I work with individuals and couples—particularly women and those navigating relational and developmental trauma—who feel caught in persistent patterns shaped by early attachment experiences. My clinical focus is on helping clients build insight, develop practical skills, and move toward greater emotional regulation, relational security, and overall well-being.

My background in mind-body health began in 2007, when I became a certified Holistic Health Counselor through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, with a focus on women’s hormonal health. Through my work in private practice, I recognized that sustainable change requires not only behavioral and lifestyle shifts, but also attention to the underlying emotional and relational dynamics that drive patterns over time.

I went on to earn a B.A. in Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University, where my undergraduate research examined the role of meditation and contemplative practices in healing early attachment trauma. I later completed a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, along with advanced training as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. My graduate training included a focus on mind-body approaches for adult children of individuals with addiction.

In my clinical work, I integrate Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based interventions within a trauma-informed framework. I help clients identify and shift maladaptive thought patterns, process stored physiological stress responses, and develop greater present-moment awareness. I also incorporate a spiritually integrative perspective when appropriate, supporting clients in exploring meaning, values, and connection in ways that align with their individual beliefs.

My approach is collaborative, structured when helpful, and attuned to each client’s pace. I aim to support clients in addressing root causes of distress while building practical tools for navigating daily life with increased clarity, resilience, and emotional flexibility.

Outside of my clinical work, I am a wife and homeschooling mother living in San Diego, with multigenerational family nearby. I enjoy power walking, dancing, attending stand-up comedy, traveling, and exploring new recipes.
